Chios Full Size Helmet
Ancient Greek life size helmet from the island city-state of Chios. The helmet bears a Sphinx on the crest, the emblem of the city which appeared also on seals and coins.
Dated to 300 BC.
Chios was one of the largest and more important economically and military islands of the Aegean. It took part in the Ionian Revolt of 499 BC which ultimately led to the Greco-Persian Wars and was later member of the Delian League after the defeat of the Persians at the naval battle of Mycale (479 BC).
Handmade in Greece of solid bronze, an exact museum reproduction.
